Matariki

This week marks the beginning of Matariki.



What is Matariki?

1. Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in mid-winter – late May or early June. For many Māori, it heralds the start of a new year. Matariki literally means the 'eyes of god' (mata ariki) or 'little eyes' (mata riki).

What a Fantastic Day

What an amazing day we had for Cross Country. Positive attitudes, lots of encouragement and children trying their best.

Sport Canterbury

Today we had a visit from Sport Canterbury.
Chris was teaching us how to throw an object accurately. We played a game called 'Crazy tag' then 'Slider' and finished off with an activity called 'Skittles'

The Rainbow Fish

Our Poem this week was 'The Rainbow Fish'

We had some technical issues with the photocopier so children have written the poems into their poetry books by themselves.

We watched the story of the Rainbow fish and we discussed the importance of being kind and positive towards our friends.

Making 10

How many different ways can we make 10?

We have been looking at how many ways we can represent the number 10

The number 10 is around us all day- we came up with lots of ways that we see the number 10

Welcome to term 2

Welcome back to all Room 14 Family and Friends.

We are speeding through our first week back- what fun we have had! Jumping Jack Flash had us all entertained on Monday and it was great to see Mrs Voller on Tuesday.

We have been having many discussions about ANZAC day and what it means. On Thursday the whole school will be having a Remembrance Ceremony- this will begin at 2.30pm. If you can join us for this, please come along.

Room 14 have made a wreath and will be presenting this at the ceremony on Thursday.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
